Osvaldo Correia, 54 years, resident in Oporto.
Graduated in Medicine by the Faculty of Medicine of Oporto, in 1985.
Has the speciality of Dermatology and Venereology, as well as Clinical Pharmacology.
Professor in the Faculty of Medicine of Oporto, from 1986, being at the present Affiliated Professor of Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Oporto.
Worked in the Department of Dermatology of Sao Joao Hospital, in Oporto, up to 1994 and, subsequently, in the Department of Dermatology at Institute of Cancer (IPO), in Oporto, up to the end of 2001. Was a member of the Clinical Board of Sao Joao Hospital, in Oporto, from 1991 to 1994. Practices private medicine from the beginning of 1993. At the present, his clinical activity is concentrated in Centro Dermatologia Epidermis (epidermis@epidermis.pt; www.epidermis.pt), in Instituto CUF, in Oporto, where he acts as Clinical Director and coordinates a group of 10 dermatologists.
He is adviser in Dermatology for the Pharmacovigilance Unity of the North of Portugal, for several years. He has international papers in this field and published, in 2003, a monography on Skin Adverse Drug reactions.
He is now general secretary of APCC (Portuguese Skin Cancer Association; www.apcancrocutaneo.pt), and dedicated, especially since 2002, special attention to the Primary and Secondary Skin Cancer Prevention, with campaigns aimed at the general population, especially children and adolescents, education and health professionals. In this field he published in 2003, with annual editions until 2015, the educational book for children entitled " Play and learn with Jo Spots …” which has been used in skin cancer prevention campaigns not only in Portugal but also in several European countries, integrated in the actions of the European Group Euromelanoma, where he collaborates for many years. In this context, he participates and coordinates the Euromelanoma Day in Portugal, for several years.
He is member of the Portuguese Society of Dermatology and Venereology, European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, American Academy of Dermatology, International Society of Dermatology, Iberian Latin American College of Dermatology (CILAD), European Nail Society (ENS), International Dermoscopy Society (IDS), Portuguese Acne Advisory Board (PAAB), Interdisciplinary Portuguese Society of Medical Laser. Member of several groups of work at Portuguese Dermatology Society: Psoriasis, Cosmetic Dermatology, Dermoscopy, Surgical Dermatology. Other areas with particular interest for many years: hair, nails, drug reactions and genital pathology (HPV).
He has more than 100 scientific publications in several areas of Dermatology, a significant number of them in international Journals (43 in Pubmed, the first one in 1991). Attached are some of the newer and older ones. Emphasis on the participation in international collaborative studies. He has over 1400 international citations of his papers. He made more than 300 scientific communications in national and international Meetings of Dermatology and participated as moderator in several national and international meetings. He is part of editorial boards of some scientific journals and he has been designated as reviewer of several international journals.
